Abstract: The first, long-awaited, structures of non-visual G-protein-coupled receptors have provided important insights into the process of ligand binding and receptor activation. Here I explore the technological advances that enabled the resolution of the crystal structures of the β(1)- and β(2)-adrenergic receptors, and review what we have learnt and what is still to be discovered.
