Abstract: Activation of the hypoxia-inducible transcription factors HIF-1 and HIF-2 and a HIF-independent defect in developmental apoptosis have been implicated in the pathogenesis of pheochromocytoma (PCC) associated with VHL, SDHB, and SDHD mutations.
