The Department of Cancer Studies & Molecular Medicine comprises five sections. These are linked by their research into different aspects of cancer (aetiology, biology, prevention and treatment) or by their focus on stem cell and cell biology as they relate to the reproductive and gastrointestinal systems.

Research is developed and monitored by a Research Strategy Committee chaired by Professor Rosemary Walker. The Department has laboratories and clinical facilities at the Leicester Royal and Leicester General Hospitals and also in the Biocentre and Hodgkin Buildings on the main University campus. In addition, clinical research facilities are sited in the UKCCSG offices on 9 Princess Road West.

United Kingdom Children’s Cancer Study Group

The Department is also home to the University's Forensic Pathology Section.
