Abstract: Holey waters: The viscosity of a range of ionic and molecular fluids is shown to be proportional to the probability of finding an adjacent hole of sufficient dimensions to permit movement. An expression for the viscosity of an ideal gas can be modified by this probability function to account for the viscosity of liquids (see graphic).
